This is a post I did two (2) years ago regarding #columbusday What’s funny in that short period of time things have changed, in #california that day is now considered #indigenousday and for good reasons. Despite beliefs that Columbus found #America there is another side of history that most don’t know and ever talk about.
.
.
In the early years of Columbus’ conquest’s very little is talked about his hands in the many indigenous people who were massacred in butcher shops set up throughout the #Caribbean where their chopped up remains were sold as #dogfood.
.
.
During this period, a practice known as the “Montería Infernal” translated the “Infernal Chase” (manhunts) in which enslaved Indians were released or those that escaped were hunted by #War dogs as a sport to appease those in charge.
.
.
Dogs themselves were protected by armor vest and spiked collars to protect against #weapons that could have been used against them. To add insult to injury, the flesh of humans were fed to incite the dogs and in some cases in front of horrified parents their babies were fed to punish the people.
.
.
This is a gruesome side of how dogs served a purpose in history and what little was known about the day that we celebrated with admiration when we we’re children.
