Your dog can never be too old or too young to start training (within reason). Same can be said for a person, (again, within reason) Everyone must be involved, if they want their dog to listen.

Obviously aside from teaching a child RESPONSIBILITY, like having to remember to feed, provide fresh water, and to clean up after their dog. A relationship that develops can be life-changing for a child as they themselves continue to grow and develop.

When training a dog, I press to my clients how important PATIENCE is to teach their dogs. In turn, dogs teach children patience as a dog can be frustrating. Puppies like to nip and chew, scratch, jump and slobber while getting to children’s toys and destroying them as it’s theirs. Patience teaches children restrain all the while to teach without yelling and/or hitting a dog.

What I know for sure is that dogs teach children COMPASSION, understanding the feeling of emotions and pain.  As dogs have short lives, and a child would more than likely be there for their dogs entire life cycle, a lesson however hard it may be is an invaluable lesson for a child as they comfort their dog and cope with their loss.
.
.

And most importantly how much FUN they will have with their best friend and pet by all the interaction they’ll have throughout their lifetime. From dressing them up, to taking them for walks. Spending time training and playing fetch. Your dog is always their through good and bad days as they’re always there to cheer you up.
