We’ve finally begun the ground work with Rocky…

We’ve finally begun the ground work with Rocky and I’m pretty happy with his obedience, which will only get better since we’re introducing bite work.

Every dog is different in its learning curve and the drives toward protection work varies as well. Some dogs are what we call “prey monsters” in that they like to chase and grab anything thrown at them. Then they’re dogs like Rocky, which are more “Defensive” minded. A little antagonizing can go a long way.

.

They end results can be the same whichever way you take to reach the goal, only thing is the latter (defense) can produce a more aggressive type dog if not trained right from the beginning.
.
.

Don’t just let anyone tell you it’s easy to train dogs for bite work, it literally is an Art form in terms of teaching, building, creating and the final product. It can be dangerous to both the handler and trainer as well as for the public if a dog is not trained properly. The key to “protection training” is making it a game and having fun with your dog. A dog should never view bite work training as a chore, but as something fun and to look after. If they take it too serious, then you’re in for some serious problems in the end.
