If this statement is true, why wouldn’t a trainer apply this same knowledge to you, the client?
Dog trainers will vary in their ideas of the proper age to begin obedience training and foundation work with a dog. Some may even call it their “method” but the truth is, every dog is different and the situation you may find yourself training your dog may differ in age as well as when you acquired the dog. Also please note: IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO TRAIN A DOG.

.
.

It has been proven that children learn at a much rapid pace than an adult so a new language to a child, besides any linguistic ideals, will set as their young brain is like a sponge absorbing anything thrown its way. The same can be said for a puppy.

.
.

Any trainer bringing home a puppy for the first time will begin to set rules and scheduling commitments for their puppy. They will begin housebreaking procedures, leash breaking, proper eating etiquette and solve any behavioral issues that may arise on a daily basis. So why shouldn’t YOU, yourself start with your dog early on too. Don’t allow a trainer dictate what you know is best for your dog, it’s only common sense.

The majority of dogs have the ability to learn, it’s essential to their growth. They also have a capacity to retain information far greater than humans believe, but it’s their willingness to learn which makes them unlike other animals in the kingdom.

Train your dog, it’s worth it in the end and read a book. Any book people need to read more books.

During the mid 19th century with the Industrial Revolution in full swing, middle class families began keeping domesticated dogs and cats as pets rather than dogs bred for working and/or a purpose.
.
.
Up to that point, the common households gave little consideration to the animals they owned. So a dogs diet consisted of whatever an owner could spare. Potatoes, bread, knuckle bones, cabbage or whatever leftovers they were.
.
.
Around 1860 a businessman by the name of James Spratt saw dogs being fed leftover biscuits from a ship and an idea was born. With a mix of wheat meals, vegetables, beetroot and beef blood the first commercially-prepared pet food was introduced to meet the new market demand of middle class families.
.
.
Using the current nutritional knowledge of the time period, around 1890 a British company took over Mr. Spratt’s formulas and productions sending the business overseas to the U.S. and the commercial dog food craze began to take shape.

A common meat source to purchase in the early 20th century was HORSE meat, as many working horses would die in the streets, instead of disposing the bodies, they were broken down for feed. Commercial canned dog food company “Ken-L Ration,” was introduced in 1922 and its main ingredient was horse meat, a acceptable ingredient source at the time.

Easy never pays in the end . . The point is, …

Easy never pays in the end
.
.

The point is, cheap dog training ain’t good and good dog training ain’t cheap. If someone who said they’re a trainer tells you that it only takes a couple of weeks to fully train your dog, trust its too good to be true.
.
.

Dogs are living, breathing animals with feelings and emotions. For someone to shape and change a dog and say it can be done in a couple of weeks is simply taking you for a ride. My daddy always told me, if it’s too good to be true then it’s not good. Just because it may be EASIER, doesn’t mean it will end well and EASY never pays in the end.

Short story: . . I trained a dog for a client…

Short story:
.
.

I trained a dog for a client, his dog didn’t respect him too much. I wrote it off as such. One day he went to correct him and his dog growled at him. I made the owner correct the dog and put him on a down command for a long down.
.
.

Minutes later my clients daughter came into the garage to see what we were doing, he yelled at her to go back into the house. The dog got up and went in between the child and my client. As he went to grab the dog to place him back on his down command the dog allowed him to correct him but when he yelled again at the little girl the dog got up and did the same thing.
.
.

At this point I knew something was up with his dog. I told him to correct the dog again and “loudly tell his daughter to go in the house again” the dog once again stood between the child and the owner.
.
.

That’s when I realized that the problem with the dog was the owner and his anger. The dog didn’t like the way he spoke to the children. My client and I had talks about kids and life in every lesson afterwards until he got the lesson that it wasn’t the boy his dog that needed training, it was the owner himself who needed to change.
.
.

Moral of the story, the dog taught this gentlemen about himself, his anger issues and the way he spoke to people rather than the training this dog was getting. Dogs truly know how people are and only if we pay attention to them more, we can learn a thing or two about ourselves.

Puppies learn very quickly, like a sponge they’ll absorb everything you throw at them.
Older dogs can too, learn quickly and have great success but if and only if they don’t already have existing – BAD HABITS.
.
.

This is the one major stickler when it comes to training an older dog, it’s understanding that it will take time to replace a set behavior with a more befitting demeanor while being patient and through a consistent effort from both owner and trainer.
.
.

What will make things go smoothly will be if the dog is social, stable and well balanced. A proper amount of time spent each day integrating the new routine will also go a long way.
.
.

Although an older dog may seem slow to pick up on things and take more repetitions to acquire knowledge, they do have patience on their side and be comforted to know that even starting at 8 weeks or 8 years, in the end the dog will retain information they were trained the same.
.

The POODLE haircut is synonymous with the bree…

The POODLE haircut is synonymous with the breed and can be traced back to early 17th century Germany. POODLES were bred to serve as WATER DOGS, retrievers to be exact.
.
.

PUDELN in GERMAN means to Splash (root word in English: Puddle) so the name POODLE is derived from the GERMAN word “PUDEL” or short for PUDELHUND which translates to WATER DOG. It was widely believed during the era that the POODLE needed a certain haircut, that an unshaven dog would be too heavy and would weigh them down while swimming.
.
.

The POODLE cut was born. The thick mane of hair kept around the chest was left to keep the POODLES vital organs warm in the cold water while the bottom half of its body was shaven believing the dog would be more buoyant and swim faster and freely. Shaving around its face, especially the mouth and eyes were so it could fulfill its retriever duties.
.
.

The two areas of a POODLE cut that receives the most attention were the hair around its paws, the thought was hair around the joint protected them from the cold and possible injuries while helping prevent rheumatism while acting as “floaties” and tying the hair on their heads into a “top knot” would keep the hair out of the dogs eyes. What was common with this, owners would tie knots with different colored ribbons to help identify their dogs from afar.
